Government Collaboration Award 2023: Francesco Sorbara

In a world increasingly focused on environmental sustainability, helping recognize the individuals and organizations championing the transition to lower-carbon, or “cleaner”, fuels is critical to the Canadian Fuels Association (CFA) and our mandate.

The CFA Government Collaboration Award recognizes Federal, Provincial or Municipal representative(s), departments and/or teams that have demonstrated a high level of engagement and cooperation with our Association and the sector.

In 2023, the CFA was proud to recognize Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan-Woodbridge, with this award, as a testament to his dedication and efforts to support lower-carbon fuels in Canada.

Lower-carbon fuels play a pivotal role in the fight against climate change, offering a pathway towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By investing in and promoting the use of lower-carbon fuels, Canada is taking significant steps towards meeting its climate targets and transitioning to a more sustainable energy future as we continue Driving to 2050.

Francesco Sorbara, a steadfast advocate for environmental sustainability and innovation, has been at the forefront of efforts to promote lower-carbon fuels. His vision for a cleaner and more sustainable Canada has driven collaboration with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and environmental organizations to bring about positive change.

M.P. Sorbara has been instrumental in advocating for policies and incentives that encourage the production and use of renewable fuels, such as renewable diesel and ethanol. These lower-carbon solutions reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a more sustainable Canadian transportation sector.

In addition to fostering strong partnerships with the Canadian fuels industry and, helping create a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and the adoption of cleaner fuels, M.P. Sorbara has actively supported the development and adoption of advanced biofuels, which are derived from non-food sources and have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector.

His efforts have helped raise awareness about the importance of reducing the carbon footprint associated with fuel production and consumption.

Francesco Sorbara’s commitment to the promotion of the environmental and economic potential of lower-carbon fuels is a shining example of the kind of leadership needed to address the urgent challenges of climate change. By recognizing his efforts with the Government Collaboration Award, the Canadian Fuels Association highlights the importance of collaboration and cooperation in achieving a more sustainable and environmentally responsible energy future for Canada. M.P. Sorbara’s work serves as an inspiration to all those dedicated to combating climate change and fostering a greener, cleaner world for future generations.
